Are You HOT or NOT?

:: Friday, April 30, 2004 ::

Got my build sheet for my Jeep today from DaimlerChrysler. Here it is. At least I know now some of the options I had questions about, like the front and rear axle type and the gear ratio. Looks like those will need upgrading :)

Got my Banks headers installed on the Jeep finally. They are very well built and it's soooo much quieter now. It used to sound like a farm tractor when I started it. I'm going to need a 2-way alarm so I can verify my remote start worked since I can't hear it start from a distance now.
Old stuff removed Side by side of new and old Header and new gasket installed

Sitting here at work and fooling around with the guys. Josh is looking up some cars on CarDomain to find new stuff to do to his '97 Prelude. Brian is doing the usual run through Hot or Not's 'Meet Me' section.

Took a picture of my new Jeep today. It was the first snow it's seen under my ownership. Too bad there was no accumulation. Damn, it's almost Thanksgiving and the fucking snow is nowhere to be found. Damn.

Got a link from a friend today for a cool wardriving/hacking site. The link to knoppix-std proved very useful.

It's been awhile since I posted, as I haven't been doing much in wireless networking. I'm thinking of changing the page to include my amateur radio hobbies, such as packet and APRS. I also have an interest in the new Icom D-Star system which similar to a trunked system, will allow users to do digital voice and data over a wide-area networked system of tower sites. It operates on 1.2GHz on the user side and 10GHz on the backbone links to form a versatile system capable of GMSK (digital) or FM voice and 128k data operation from the same radio. The radio features an ethernet port for 10BASE-T and a USB port for computer control/programming and an optional control head. I'm going to the Dayton Hamvention this year and hope to get some hands-on with this equipment, but at the very least I will get some pictures.

Here's a look at tower safety, and what NOT to do...(Quicktime required)

Falling wrench1.56MB .mov

That's me (Shawn H.) on camera, our marketing guy Bryan M. running the camera,
and our former tower monkeys Brian N. and Shawn M. up on a county 911 tower at about 150ft (out of 211 total height.)

Notice the nice whirring sound as the wrench rockets toward us, and the delay of the warning yelled from above after it's too late.
